With the influx of stray and abandoned animals, overcrowded animal shelters in North Dakota are facing significant challenges in providing adequate care and finding homes for every animal in need.

If you don’t think North Dakota has a problem, come spend a day with the Stray Sanctuary. The rescue recently hit a record breaking 129 animals in 107 days. The Stray Sanctuary also took in 11 new dogs through their doors in a 24 hour period.

The Stray Sanctuary, led by Kelci Hanson and Ali Parizek, is in Ray, ND, and is committed to aiding the large population of lost and abandoned dogs in our area. Through their tireless efforts, Kelci and Ali are singlehandedly making a tremendous impact by assisting hundreds of dogs in need. Their dedication is truly remarkable. But they can't do it without community support.

The Stray Sanctuary is thrilled to announce a fantastic opportunity, and are counting on your support to ensure its success. Save the date for Saturday, May 4th and attend a fundraiser for the construction of their new shelter building. Expect auctions, games, and live music at The Rigg Lounge II in Tioga, ND.

The Stray Sanctuary is currently in the process of erecting a facility to provide safe haven and top-notch care for rescued animals. Want to pitch in? They're accepting auction items. Drop them off at Stonecrafters in Williston or Minot, or at The Rig Lounge in Tioga. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference!

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
