While it may not be the cause of serious issues in everyone, this one simple thing could end up costing you some valuable sleep or could make waking up more of an issue.

If you are like most North Dakotans, chances are that you sleep with your ceiling fan on. Experts are now warning that doing this could be the cause of your morning issues.

IS IT OK TO SLEEP WITH YOUR CEILING FAN ON?

The answer is not so simple. While you are not seriously affecting your health, having the fan on could lead to some minor issues that could affect your sleep. While you can sleep with the ceiling fan on, you might not want to

WHY IS SLEEPING WITH THE CEILING FAN BAD?

Sleeping with the ceiling fan on might keep you cooler, but it also leads to more dust and allergens being sent around the room. When you breathe these in, it could irritate your nasal passage and lead to not-so-restful sleep.

WHAT ARE SOME SYMPTOMS OF INHALING THESE THINGS?

Along with allergens, the fan could also pass around germs and viruses. This can lead to a wide range of issues.

  • Stuffy nose (nasal congestion)

  • Burning or itching sensation in your nose

  • Nosebleeds

  • Sinus headache

  • Dry, sore throat

  • Coughing

WHAT ARE SOME OTHER SIDE EFFECTS OF SLEEPING WITH THE FAN ON?

One of the biggest issues is that the air circulating around you can lead to drier skin and eyes. That could lead to bigger problems down the line.

HOW CAN I HELP GET THE AIR CLEAN?

If you want to sleep with the ceiling fan on, there are some things you can do to eliminate allergens and other particles. You could run air purifiers, and dehumidifiers, and make sure that you dust your room and the blades of the fan.

The bottom line is that while it is ok to sleep with the ceiling fan on if you want to have a better night's rest, make sure to clean your room and keep the amount of dust and particles down to help you sleep

Or not, do whatever you want; I'm not your mom.
