Mother’s Day, a day dedicated to honoring and celebrating the incredible women in our lives, saw a significant outpouring of love and appreciation this year. According to the National Retail Foundation (NRF), we collectively spent a whopping $33.5 billion on gifts and celebrations. That’s a whole lot of love packed into one day!

Generational Trends:

So, who were the big spenders? Well, it turns out the 35 to 44 age group took the cake, dishing out an average of $346 each. Seems like they really know how to show their appreciation for mom, doesn’t it?

Popular Gifts:

Now, when it comes to gifts, flowers were the real MVPs, with a whopping 74% of celebrants opting for a beautiful bouquet. Greeting cards were a close second at 74%, showing that sometimes, a heartfelt message can mean just as much as any gift. And let’s not forget about special outings, chosen by 59% of celebrants. Because sometimes, experiences make the best memories.

Mom’s Preference:

But here’s something interesting: a YouGov poll revealed while most moms loved the idea of spending quality time with their kids, about 20% actually preferred a little solo time. Hey, moms need a break too, right?

Regional Preferences:

A fascinating insight into regional preferences emerged through Google's analysis of the top Mother's Day flowers searched in each state. Carnations emerged as the predominant choice in 25 states, including North Dakota and Montana, followed by peonies and hydrangeas. Surprisingly, roses were conspicuously absent from the list.

Self-Care Trends:

In recent times, self-care has gained prominence as an essential aspect of well-being, reflected in the top "self-care" gifts searched online. The popularity of self-care gift boxes, incense burners, meditation candles, and "callus healer" indicates a growing inclination towards holistic wellness practices, emphasizing the importance of nurturing oneself along with expressing gratitude towards others.

As we look back on Mother’s Day 2024, it’s clear that it’s not just about the gifts or the flowers. It’s about showing our moms just how much they mean to us, whether it’s through a heartfelt message, a beautiful bouquet, or simply spending quality time together. Because at the end of the day, that’s what really matters most
