Ah, first dates—the perfect time to awkwardly overshare and panic-order a drink you can’t pronounce. But with inflation squeezing wallets tighter than skinny jeans, fine dining might be off the table. Is it okay to suggest a fast-food date instead? DatingNews surveyed 3,000 men to find out, and the results might surprise you.

Over half (54%) of North Dakota men said they’d happily ditch the candlelit dinners for cheeseburgers and soda. Turns out, love doesn’t always need champagne and oysters; sometimes, it’s just fries and nuggets. Women aren’t entirely against it either—two-thirds said they’d say yes to a fast-food first date. Bigger portions, smaller price tags, and zero pressure? Sounds like a win.

When it comes to the where of budget dining, Dairy Queen reigned supreme (because every queen deserves a Blizzard). McDonald’s claimed second place, while Subway slid into third—probably for its chill daytime vibes. Sorry, Taco Bell lovers; no serenades over Chalupas made the cut.

But why would anyone agree to a budget date? According to women surveyed, 41% are all about good vibes, 40% appreciate honesty about finances, and 19% just want something tasty. And splitting the fast-food bill? Totally fine for 56%.

If burgers aren’t your thing, other budget-friendly ideas include coffee dates (26%), movie marathons with takeout (24%), and food truck adventures (23%). Even dollar-menu picnics got a nod, though only 12% were brave enough to try it.

So, next time someone invites you to McDonald’s, don’t roll your eyes. Romance doesn’t have to break the bank—sometimes, it’s just sharing a McFlurry and hoping they don’t double-dip.
