North Dakota Husbands Rejoice—A Scientific Excuse for Not Listening
Is He Ignoring You… or Just Can’t Hear?
Have you ever had a conversation with your boyfriend or husband and felt like they weren't paying attention to you? They could be ignoring you, but it's also possible they simply didn't hear you
The “Guys Don’t Listen” Stereotype
The idea that "guys don't listen" is a common stereotype. It's one that I totally agree with—my nephew Corban doesn’t hear a word you say until you yell his name!
North Dakota Men, You’ve Got an Excuse Now
But hey, fellas in North Dakota, you just got a new justification for not listening. A recent study found men literally can't hear as well as women, and there's nothing you can do about it. It probably just comes down to anatomy.
Science Confirms It: Men Hear Less
Scientists tested people's hearing in different countries around the world and found it's true everywhere. The average woman has a two-decibel advantage, and up to six decibels with some frequencies.
Why the Difference? Blame Biology
It's not a lot, but that’s notable enough to make a difference. Researchers think it may just come down to hormones, or how our ears develop in the womb.
They believe it's possible women's brains are better at processing sound too. So when it comes to hearing, men might have worse ears AND inferior brains. OUCH!
A Weird Bonus Fact About Ears
The study also found that regardless of gender, we all tend to hear out of our right ear a little better than our left. They don't know why. So if you think he's ignoring you, try speaking louder and into his right ear.
Finally, an Excuse for Zoned-Out North Dakota Guys
This is great news for zoned-out North Dakota men. When your wife says you don't listen, you’ll now have an excuse.
