Picture this: you’re at the water cooler, and your colleague nervously asks if you'd like to grab dinner sometime. According to a survey by DatingNews.com, only 1 in 4 North Dakotans would feel comfortable with this scenario. The rest? They'd rather keep love out of the office and in the dating apps, coffee shops, and wedding parties where it belongs.

In fact, a whopping 57% of North Dakotans are all for official guidelines to navigate those tricky workplace romances. An interactive map even shows where office love is most and least tolerated across the state!

You might think that with the rise of remote work, office romances have faded into obscurity. But as we return to the office, those awkward copy-room encounters and secret crushes on the coworker two desks over are set to make a comeback.

So, what’s the 2024 vibe on office romances? Well, 33% of North Dakotans think they should be outright banned. Compare that to the national average of 52%, and you see a state still clinging to a bit of old-school romance... just not at work!

And if you’re thinking about asking your cute colleague out, think again. Only a quarter of those surveyed are cool with the idea, while the rest would prefer to keep things strictly professional.

But why all the fuss? It’s not just about dodging awkward Monday meetings. Office romances can lead to conflicts of interest, create hostile work environments, and make people trust their boss less if they think there’s some hanky-panky going on. A surprising 43% of North Dakotans admit they’d lose trust in their manager if they were dating a colleague.

Despite the general wariness, nearly half of the respondents suspect that secret office flings are happening right under their noses. And if a company-wide email accidentally spilled the beans on a hidden office romance?
