It's officially spring in North Dakota, but the a winter chill still lingers—and what better way to shake off the seasonal slump than with a good old-fashioned cold-water plunge?

Taking a dip in near-freezing waters might sound like something only the truly bold (or slightly unhinged) would attempt, but cold plunging has taken off for good reason. Enthusiasts swear it reduces stress, improves sleep, and gives a boost to your mood.

From Stinky to Refreshing: My Polar Plunge Story

And if you’re wondering what it’s actually like? Well, I can tell you firsthand—I’ve done the Polar Plunge twice for Williston Special Olympics, and let me tell you, it takes your breath away! The good news? It’s a plunge, not a soak. You get in, you get out, and you get bragging rights.

My first plunge was at Williston's Spring Lake Park, and wow, was it stinky! The next time, they had us plunge into a container filled with ice and water—much better! No goose poo or weird smells, just a pure, invigorating shock to the system.
