Tuba Christmas on Dec. 7: A Brassy Holiday Tradition Continues in Williston
If you love the rich, brassy sounds of Christmas, mark your calendar for December 7th—it’s time for Tuba Christmas! This festive event unites tuba and euphonium players to fill the air with classic carols and holiday cheer, a tradition with roots going back to 1974.
A Bit of History:
Tuba Christmas was created by legendary tuba player Harvey G. Phillips to honor his teacher, William J. Bell, born on Christmas Day in 1902. The inaugural concert took place at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink and has since grown into a beloved celebration worldwide.
In Williston, Tuba Christmas has been a holiday favorite for over 30 years! What began under the direction of Virgil Severson, with a mix of local musicians and students, now thrives as a community effort led by Chad and Helen Askim. This event brings together players as young as 6th grade, alumni, and seasoned musicians, all sharing their love of holiday music.
