Am I the Only Person in North Dakota Annoyed with Pumpkin Spice Season?
The Pumpkin Spice Invasion Begins
The annual pumpkin spice invasion is upon us once again. I've noticed pumpkin spice oatmeal, Cheerios, Oreos, and more, in stores. Krispy Kreme has their new line of pumpkin spice-flavored beverages and doughnuts. Starbucks brought out all types of pumpkin spice drinks with their fall menu launch. While it's refreshing to see them offer iced and frozen latte options for those still enjoying summer weather. However, the early arrival of pumpkin spice products in August always feels premature.
The Ubiquity of Pumpkin Spice
It's that time of year when everything from coffee to toilet paper is infused with the infamous blend of cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice. While many embrace this autumnal flavor profile, I find myself increasingly perplexed by its ubiquity.
A Personal Pumpkin Spice Dilemma
I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie, and the idea of pumpkin spice anything fills me with a sense of dread. It's as if the entire world conspires to force this flavor down our throats starting in August. From the mundane (cereal, popcorn) to the absurd (Spam, Dude Wipes), pumpkin spice has infiltrated every corner of our lives.
The Truth About Pumpkin Spice
While the name implies a pumpkin-based flavor, the reality is often quite different. The actual pumpkin content in these products is often negligible, if present at all. It's more about the spice blend than the gourd.
A Call for a Flavor Revolution
I propose a counter-revolution. Let's reclaim autumn with flavors that truly capture the essence of the season. Maple, apple, and the often-overlooked Russian tea offer delicious alternatives. Maple syrup brings a touch of sweetness and warmth, while apples evoke crisp autumn days. Russian tea, a comforting blend of citrus and spice, is a hidden gem worthy of rediscovery.
Time for a Seasonal Shake-Up?
So, let's raise a glass (or mug) to these underappreciated fall flavors. And while we're at it, let's agree to dial back the pumpkin spice madness.
Pumpkin Spice Fatigue: You're Not Alone
It seems I'm not alone in my pumpkin spice fatigue. A recent survey revealed that a majority of people are growing tired of the ubiquitous flavor. In fact, cinnamon, salted caramel, and apple ranked higher in popularity than pumpkin spice.
What’s Your Fall Flavor?
It looks like pumpkin spice may be losing its reign as the undisputed king of fall flavors. Perhaps it's time for a seasonal flavor shake-up.
What's your stance on pumpkin spice? Are you a die-hard fan, or do you prefer other autumnal flavors?
