On Saturday, October 26 I had such a wonderful time at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church for their 37th annual Meatball Dinner!
My mom Linda and I usually pick up our meals to-go, but this year we decided to stay and eat at the church, which was a nice change. The dinner was super affordable too—just $15 for adults and $5 for kids 10 and under.
The event ran from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and we arrived later in the afternoon. We were seated with four other guests, and the food was served family-style right at our table, making it feel like a cozy, homey meal.

It was fun chatting and getting to know our tablemates, Dick and Marg McKennet, along with Pastor David and Margaret Maxfield (Gloria Dei Lutheran Church), as we shared stories and enjoyed the meal together.
The menu had everything you’d hope for: meatballs with gravy, potatoes, corn, coleslaw, buns, and even Our Redeemer’s famous homemade ice cream. Delicious!

Volunteers begin meal prep as early as Monday, and by Saturday, they have teams for every task—cooking, serving, setting up, tearing down, washing dishes, delivering meals, and organizing take-out orders.

It’s a massive effort, all carried out with dedication and care. This year, they served a whopping 2,002 meals across dine-in, take-out, and deliveries!

It takes an amazing team of volunteers to make it all happen, and it’s really special to see multiple generations—grandparents, parents, and kids—all working together to keep this tradition going.

I left with a full belly and a grateful heart for everyone who made the dinner possible. It’s a true community event, and I’m already looking forward to next year’s!
