Not Everyone Is Cheering For Summer In North Dakota
Not Everyone Loves Summer
Hard to believe, but not everyone is a fan of summer. I know a lot of people who hate the hot weather, including my mom, my friend Rochelle, and my co-worker Sam, who’s very sensitive to the heat.
A new survey asked Americans to rank their least favorite parts of the summer season, and I think most of these will hit home here in North Dakota.
Mosquitoes Top the List
28% said mosquitoes are the worst part of summer. No surprise there! Plus, we all know that ND mosquitoes seem built differently.
Heat and Humidity Drive People Indoors
27% said the extreme heat and sweating make them want to stay inside, even after a long winter.
24% said they can’t stand the humidity, especially after a storm.
Sunburns Are a Summer Bummer
Sunburns are still a big issue, with 88% expecting to burn an average of 2.5 times during the season.
Tourists Can Be Too Much
22% of people in popular areas said they dislike the summer crowds. Medora and the lakes might agree.
Other Summer Struggles
Higher utility bills, soaring travel costs, pressure to be outside all the time, and too much air conditioning also made the list. Though in North Dakota, some still barely touch the AC.

Short Season, Long List of Complaints
Summer in North Dakota may be brief, but it’s not without its challenges. As for me? I love the summer heat. Give me sunshine and 90 degrees any day.
