In romantic relationships, cheating usually refers to being unfaithful emotionally, physically, or both. It often causes lasting damage to trust and can lead to the end of the relationship. What defines cheating can vary between couples based on agreed upon boundaries. 

New Study Ranks States by Infidelity Interest

New research has revealed the states with the most cheaters. The rankings were based on the number of searches for the Ashley Madison app – which is for married people looking to have an affair. 

North Dakota and Montana Rank High

North Dakota and Montana rank surprisingly high for infidelity curiosity. Both states beat out larger and more densely populated states, raising eyebrows about what might be happening behind closed doors in the Northern Plains.

Colorado Takes the Top Spot

According to the study, Colorado claimed the #1 spot, with 424 monthly searches, but North Dakota isn’t far behind at #2 in the U.S. with 362 monthly searches. Montana ranked at #6, with 342 searches per month. 

What the Numbers Really Mean

The numbers don't prove that everyone in these places is cheating, but they do show that a lot of people are interested in the idea of having an affair. 

I'm curious about the representation of the oilfield workforce in Montana and North Dakota data. Many people up here work far from their families, and finding singles in your area is simple as downloading an app.
