Winter is on its way, bringing colder days and longer nights, but for the elders in our community, warmth and comfort are only a blanket away. Watford City's McKenzie Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MEC) is reaching out with a heartwarming mission: to bring comfort to local elder care residents with the gift of soft, cozy blankets.

MEC is inviting community members to donate new or gently used blankets to help provide warmth and a sense of care for elders who may face the winter chill without enough protection. With a goal to gather 250 blankets, MEC aims to remind these valued community members that they’re cherished and never forgotten.

The blankets will be distributed to the Good Shepherd Home in Watford City, Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, and Golden Valley Manor in Beach. Donations of new, twin and full-size throw blankets are ideal and will be delivered to these care facilities beginning in late December.

To participate in this year’s blanket drive, drop off your donations Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, at the McKenzie Electric Cooperative Headquarters, located at 3817 23 Ave NE, Watford City. Every blanket offers more than just warmth; it’s a reminder to our elders that they’re valued and embraced by our community. Last day to donate is December 27, 2024.
