Over the weekend in NW North Dakota, it was a blast!

Alongside pet-sitting duties that kept me occupied all weekend, Friday afternoon a few colleagues and I swung by the open house celebrating Deb Richter's retirement at American State Bank. Despite stepping back, Deb will still be contributing to The Miss North Dakota pageant and Summer Nights on Main. Brandon Delvo has stepped in as her successor at the bank.

I had the chance to watch my 9-year-old nephew, Corban, participate in a hockey tournament held in Fargo. I followed the games all weekend through Facebook Live. Despite the team's hard efforts, their Grand Forks Team landed 13th place overall.

Saturday afternoon I headed to the Williston Fairgrounds to spectate curling matches at the January Bonspiel. It marked my first in-person experience with curling, and I must say, it was fascinating!

Sunday afternoon, I attended the student artist reception at the James Memorial Art Center, honoring the Williston Students who received accolades in the North Dakota Juried Student Art Show 2024-2024.

Kudos to the Williston Award Winners—Jenna Heck, Breasia Chaney, Addysyn Scott, Cambre Faulkner, Jackson Rustad, Cat Canerdy Kalmik, Cynthia Olivera, Roxanna Vega, and Jorge Sanchez.

Don't miss the chance to admire the display of the ND Juried Student Art Show this month. Our town boasts some incredibly talented students. Gallery hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9 AM to 3 PM
  • Friday: 12 PM to 5 PM
  • Saturday: Closed
  • Sunday: 1 PM to 5 PM

Besides everything else, I caught two movies — "Infinity Pool" and "No One Will Save You" — and indulged in an abundance of cookies. A pet sitting client had a tin of Royal Dansk Danish Butter Cookies, and I found myself unable to resist them!

These cookies transported me back to my childhood and a Sunday morning tradition. After Sunday School at church, I'd have these cookies with tea at my Grandma Helen Ouse's place. Ah, memories!
