Christmas Crooks: North Dakota is a hotbed for residential burglaries in December.

Yikes, the land of North Dakota "Nice" isn't always so pure as snow white, especially during the holidays.

A new study from H & P Law, out of Las Vegas, Nevada, analyzed FBI Crime Data from 2023, specifically looking for residential burglaries across the United States.

What this study uncovered about North Dakota should make you feel very uneasy.

How uneasy, very uneasy. We are in the top 10 in the entire country for residential burglaries in the entire United States.

North Dakota ranks #4 for residential burglaries.

According to the study, 145 residential burglaries were reported in North Dakota in 2023, which is 18.5 per 100,000 people. Again, that was good for the 4th highest in America.

Other interesting findings from the study about North Dakota December crooks.

You are probably thinking most of these crimes are committed by porch pirates. They are a part of the equation, no doubt, but according to the study, most of these crimes occur at 1 am. That means criminals are likely breaking into homes across the state.

One little bit of good news is that the peak day for holiday burglaries in North Dakota has already passed (it's December 3rd).

Let's take a look at our neighboring states and how they ranked.

Unfortunately for us, our bordering states are much safer than North Dakota.

South Dakota came in at #30.

Minnesota came in at #31.

Montana came in at #32.

Kind of ironic, that all three of those states are so far down the list and all back to back to back.

I guess this study shows North Dakotans should be vigilant, make sure their cameras are working, and be sure to lock their doors on their home, garage, and vehicles. Don't let some Grinch ruin your holiday.
