The population of North Dakota continues to grow year after year. The Peace Garden state has a lot going for it, including quality of life, affordability, and job opportunities. Add in our recreational opportunities, wide open spaces, and North Dakota "nice" people, and this is a great place to live. One state in particular is recognizing this and is moving here in droves. In fact, almost 3 to 1 compared to any other state.

According to StorageCafe, about 8,200 movers, about 29 percent of all North Dakota move-ins came from this state. Census data points to affordability as the driver. North Dakota home values run about 23 percent lower than this state, and rents are roughly 24 percent lower. The next closest state is Utah (I've seen a few license plates of late) with 2,700, Florida with 2,500 (this is a surprise to me), followed by Colorado with 1,900, and Kansas with 1,400 rounding out the top five feeder states to North Dakota.

Gen Z makes up about 49% of inbound movers, in the same year Gen Z overtook Millennials as the most mobile generation nationally.

Overall, North Dakota ranked number 3 in the country for net domestic migration per 1,000 residents in this latest survey, netting roughly 7,900 residents.
