I can still remember the excitement I felt when I walked into one of these stores

Well, I can tell you this, it certainly wasn't back in 1948 when this icon store came to life. According to investors.dicks.com  "A gentleman by the name of Dick Stack opened a small bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton, New York, using $300 from his grandmother, growing from that single shop into the nation's largest sporting goods retailer." Of course, that wonderful bit of history remains the charm of Dick's Sporting Goods. My first visit was back in San Diego, California.

I walked down the aisle towards a sea of running shoes, for runners of all abilities

The strength of this store was that they carried it all, from every sport imaginable. All around the country, this remains the pattern as Dick's has over 700 stores that are up and running, including the only one in North Dakota - right here in Bismarck - 1451 East LaSalle Drive. We all know how rumors can ignite, and recently, exactly that happened.

Is Dick's Sporting Goods here in Bismarck closing its doors for good?

Check this out, according to foxbusiness.com  "Dick's Sporting Goods completed its acquisition of Foot Locker in September, Dick's Sporting Goods completed its $2.4 billion acquisition of Foot Locker in September 2025. Dick’s Sporting Goods is set to close a number of underperforming Foot Locker stores as it continues to review its business and position it for sustained growth" - Some rumors hit social media lately about IF Dick's here in Bismarck was set to close, permanently.

A quick phone call over there this afternoon got my answer

I took a couple of minutes to call over at Dick's here in Bismarck, and a very polite employee told me that they do NOT have any plans to close for good. So there you go, keeping that Dick's tradition alive here at their ONLY North Dakota store!
