As an update to a touching tale we shared a few weeks ago, the Upper Missouri Valley Fair is moving on with preparations for its eagerly awaited sensory-friendly day, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 from 12 to 2 PM. There is so much good to be said for this. I can say firsthand that we tried our best to accommodate everyone after I served on the board for 20 fairs, but there were some people we should have gone a little further for. We just didn't know how to do it. To enable people with sensory sensitivity to easily and comfortably enjoy the fair's attractions, this particular event attempts to establish an inclusive and welcoming setting that is truly for everyone.

Here are the latest details:

  1. Pre-registration Process: To manage the event smoothly, the fair organizers have implemented a pre-registration process. Only 150 bracelets will be distributed, ensuring a manageable crowd size conducive to a sensory-friendly experience.
  2. Chaperone Requirement: All children under 18 attending the event must be accompanied by a chaperone. The chaperone will be responsible for picking up the bracelet, and gates will be closely monitored to maintain security and safety throughout the event.
  3. Focus on Sensory Sensitive Children: In an effort to maximize the impact of the event, organizers are urging families with multiple children to register only the sensory-sensitive child. This approach ensures that as many individuals as possible can benefit from the accommodations provided.
  4. Expansion of Entertainment Options: The fair organizers are actively seeking to enhance the sensory-friendly experience by inviting additional entertainers to join the effort. Stay tuned for further updates on the lineup of activities and performers.
