Are We Getting Enough Sleep in North Dakota? This Map Says…
We all know how important a good night's sleep can be. But depending on where you live, some states may have a little more going for them when it comes to getting some shut-eye.
A new map highlighted by Men's Journal looked at sleep conditions across the country, and there are some interesting results for our part of the country.
The study, conducted by Alpine Hearing Protection, looked at 47 states using 10 factors that can affect sleep, including transportation noise, air quality, humidity, population density and extreme weather. Each state received a Bad Sleep Score from 0 to 100, with a higher score indicating worse conditions for sleep.

How Does North Dakota Compare?
North Dakota came in with a Bad Sleep Score of 61.7.
That puts the Peace Garden State ahead of several nearby states when it comes to the study's sleep conditions. South Dakota scored 67.1, while Minnesota came in at 59.7.
Montana had the lowest score among the four states in our region at 57.9.

Who Has the Best and Worst Sleep?
According to the map, Florida had the highest Bad Sleep Score in the country at 89.0.
At the other end of the map, Vermont recorded the country's lowest score at 52.6. New Hampshire, Montana, Maine, Nebraska and Minnesota were also among the states with the lower scores.
The study doesn't mean everyone in North Dakota is sleeping better or worse than their neighbor. It is a comparison of environmental and other factors that can influence sleep.
Still, the next time you're lying awake listening to the wind outside, you can at least wonder: is North Dakota really that bad for sleep?
Based on this map, it could be worse.
