That seemingly harmless water bottle in your cup holder could be a fire hazard. According to David Richardson, administration major for the Midwest City Fire Department in Oklahoma, the sun's rays can bounce off that bottle and spark a blaze inside your car.

And let's not forget about the water itself. After baking in the heat, it can become a breeding ground for all sorts of nasties. Drinking that heat soaked water could make you sick, so it’s best to avoid it. 

Electronics Are a No-Go 

Got a vape or one of those fancy electric scooters? Better not leave them in your car. The intense heat can cause them to explode. 

Dangerous Everyday Items 

Everyday items like hairspray, soda cans, and lighters can also spell trouble in a hot car. These items can expand and potentially explode, causing damage to your vehicle or, worse, starting a fire. 

Food and Medications 

It’s not a good idea to leave groceries or medications in your car. Food can spoil quickly in the heat, and some medications become less effective or even harmful if they get too hot. It's always best to take these items inside with you.
