Something encouraging is happening at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston.

Bringing Cutting-Edge Ultrasound Technology to Williston

Thanks to a $619,183 grant from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, CHI Williston now has two Philips Epic Elite echo ultrasound machines and five point-of-care ultrasound devices.

According to CHI's  press release, it’s part of a massive $27.4 million investment across North Dakota, ensuring that even rural communities get access to the latest medical technology.

Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures inside the body. CHI St. Alexius Health Williston provides 24/7 general ultrasound services as well as cardiac ultrasounds 5 days a week.

Walter Panzirer, a Trustee of the Helmsley Charitable Trust, said the grants will help improve access to state-of-the-art medical treatment for North Dakotans. “Facilities need to stay current with rapidly advancing technology so they can continue to provide the very best healthcare close to home.”

The majority of the 134 devices purchased through these grants are point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) machines, which allow providers to perform immediate bedside assessments to determine a patient’s course of action quickly.

In addition, the grants are funding:

  • 57 general ultrasound systems

  • 24 cardiovascular ultrasound systems, which provide advanced imaging of the heart.

For the medical staff using these machines every day, this upgrade means clearer images, quicker results, and better patient outcomes. And for the people of Williston and the surrounding area, it means fewer long trips to larger cities to get the care we need.
