Dodgeball Showdown: Help Support Kids in Foster Care in Williston, ND
Dodgeball—it’s that classic schoolyard game we all remember from gym class. Whether you were the one launching fast throws, dodging like a pro, or just hoping not to get hit, you probably have some hilarious memories. And if you’ve seen the movie Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, you know just how intense (and ridiculous) the game can get! Now, it’s time to relive the fun—for a great cause!
The Williston Junior National Honor Society (NJHS)—made up of local 7th and 8th graders—is hosting a Charity Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 10:00 AM in the Bakken Gymnasium. Proceeds will go toward helping kids in local foster care by providing essentials like socks, blankets, backpacks, and hygiene items—plus fun things like Lego sets, art supplies, and fidgets to bring a little joy to their lives.
What is NJHS?
The National Junior Honor Society isn’t just about good grades—it’s about building leadership, character, and a commitment to service. Chapters across the country encourage middle school students to give back to their schools and communities, and the Williston chapter is doing just that with this exciting fundraiser.
More Than Just Dodgeball!
Even if you’re not playing, there’s plenty of fun to be had. Browse the silent auction, featuring prizes donated by local businesses, and grab a delicious sloppy joe lunch along with other tasty treats for sale. Plus, cheer on the teams as they compete in exciting dodgeball matchups.

With over 50 students and staff volunteering, the energy will be high and the competition fierce. Doors open at 9:00 AM at Door 9 of the Bakken Gymnasium. Entry fees: $2 for students, $5 for adults. Matches start at 10:00 AM sharp.
I had the chance to interview Williston Junior Honor Society students Brynlee, Gracie, and Jeffery, and they’re hoping to see even more teams sign up—so far, ten have registered—and they’re looking for a big turnout from the community.
